Hello! Happy July! (Get the picture? It’s a goal. Crafty, no?) Another quarter has come and gone, and it’s time to take a look at how I did. I’m also looking ahead and seeing what I plan to accomplish in the coming quarter. Last quarter was a bit rough. I ended up having a busier quarter than I had been expected with school, work, and my social life. With so much going on, I wasn’t as successful with last quarter as I had hoped. However, I did make some substantial progress, which I hope to surpass in the coming quarter.
First, let’s look at what I planned to do last quarter and see how I did.
Goal Nº 1: Write one blog post per week
I only missed three! Ok, that’s kind of a lot. Fail.
Goal Nº 2: Complete Camp NaNoWriMo
Another fail. But starting today, I get to try again!
Goal Nº 3: Reach 100 Twitter Followers
Goal Nº 4: Complete Act I of Ingora Gray
This was by far my most important goal, and I achieved it! Double win! And the best part is I am more motivated than ever to keep writing. It’s all I ever want to do.
Goal Nº 5: Submit 3 Pieces for Publication
I didn’t get this one done, but hey, maybe next time.
Goal Nº 6: Read 9 Books
Uh, no. Not even close.
Goal Nº 7: Read 1 Craft Book
I read Just Write by James Scott Bell. It was a wonderful and easy read, and I definitely recommend it.
Goal Nº 8: Complete 2 Short Stories
This was a success. I actually wrote 3, all of which I thoroughly like and hope to do more with.
Goal Nº 9: Create a Goodreads Profile
I did this, and although I haven’t used it much, it is done!
Goal Nº 10: Make 3 New Vlogs
I sort of accomplished this. I have vlogs filmed, but not posted. I have some plans for introducing vlogging into my blog this coming quarter. There will be more on this later. I am giving myself a win for this one because I got them made and I’m just waiting to post.
So if we tally that up I completed 6 out of my 10 goals, which means I technically succeeded last quarter. I feel a little badly because some of my important goals were not met, but hey, it’s a win.
I’m hoping I can replicate last quarter and have another win for the third quarter of the year. It will be another busy quarter that will involve more school and even a move to Spain. But I am confident that I will make progress nonetheless. Here are the things I hope to get done in the next three months!
Goal Nº 1: Write 500 Words, 5 Days a Week
If I am able to do this, I will have 30,000 more words of my novel written before the end of the quarter. This word count should rise in July due to Camp NaNoWriMo. By the time these next few months draw to a close, I should be done with Act II of Ingora Gray and onto Act III.
Goal Nº 2: Complete Camp NaNoWriMo
I have a 20,000 word goal for this July and I am so bound and determined to accomplish this. I have a great group of writers to help cheer me on, and I can’t wait to see my cabin succeed.
Goal Nº 3: Blog Every Friday
I’m making this goal a little more difficult this time around. I wanted to give myself a specific day to post so that I can do so with some regularity.
Goal Nº 4: Vlog Every Monday
This is one that I’m excited about. I’m going to begin vlogging on YouTube as a feature of this site. There will be more about this on Monday, when I upload my first vlog.
Goal Nº 5: Beta Read
I’ve been wanting to try beta reading for quite some time. Earlier this week, a friend of mine put out a call for betas and I volunteered. I am looking forward reading what she’s been working on.
Goal Nº 6: Edit 2 of my Short Stories
I have two stories in particular that I feel have some real potential for publication. I want to polish them up in preparation for my next goal.
Goal Nº 7: Submit Edited Stories
I really want to get some serious publication credit under my belt, and I hope that this will happen by the end of the year.
Goal Nº 8: Read a Craft Book on Dialogue
Dialogue is one of the most difficult parts of writing for me, and I would really like to work on it. So this quarter I am going to focus on this specifically and make my characters come alive.
Goal Nº 9: Reach 250 Twitter Followers
Hopefully, these numbers will keep climbing. I love meeting other writers and hearing about what they are working on.
Goal Nº 10: Finalize the Business Plan for The Write Minds
As this blog has been taking shape, I’ve been working on a business plan. It is important that this gets finished so that my blog can continue to progress.
It’s starting to look like I have a busy quarter coming up. I think it’s important to take these times to get motivated by setting new goals. Have you set any goals for the next quarter? Comment below and let me know how last quarter went and what you plan to do for the next three months.
