With only a couple of weeks left in the quarter (where is the time going?!) I thought it’d be a good time to look at the goals I set in April and see what I’ve got left to do. The other week I wrote a post about some of the tactics I use to get back into writing when I’ve taken a leave of absence. One of the things I find helpful is doing a goal check-in. Reminding yourself of the goals you made back when the quarter seemed promising and bright is essential in making sure you achieve them. Here’s a link to my quarterly goals post if you’d like to take a look. I use the lovely Jenna Moreci’s goal-making method, using a slight variation. So, let’s see what I’ve got to do in the next three weeks to accomplish at least half of these goals.
Goal No 1: Write one blog post per week
This is going ok, and I’m headed for a half a win on this one. I took some time off during my finals, so I am slightly behind. But, I’ve decided that if I can make up for those weeks before the quarter ends, I get half a win. (I don’t know if this is allowed, but I’m allowing it!)
Goal No 2: Complete Camp NaNoWriMo
Although Camp NaNo was incredibly helpful with making progress for my writing, I sadly did not reach my word-count goal. I believe I reached a little over half of my 20,000-word goal. I will be trying again in July!
Goal No 3: Reach 100 Twitter Followers
I achieved this goal! I currently have 106 followers, which is not all that impressive. But having never been a twitter user, I am pretty happy that I reached this milestone. Follow me if you haven’t already!
Goal No 4: Complete Act I of Ingora Gray
This is by far and away the most important goal I have on my list, and I’m on my way to achieving it. However, there is going to be some serious writing time in the next few weeks. I am determined to have a draft of Act I completed by June 30th. Then, starting July 1st, I can use Camp NaNo to make some serious progress on Act II.
Goal No 5: Submit 3 Pieces for Publication
I have not submitted any of my writing for publication, and I don’t think I will be able to by the end of the quarter. Oh well! I will try again in the future.
Goal No 6: Read 9 Books
Here is another goal that I have no hope of achieving. I have read a few books, but not enough to get this one checked off. Most of my reading is for school, and summer classes have cut into my planned reading time. Also, I switched out some of the books that I planned to read, so expect to see some of the same titles on my list for next quarter.
Goal No 7: Read 1 Craft Book
This one will be completed for. I am reading Just Write by James Scott Bell, and it is wonderful so far. I can’t put it down. James Scott Bell has a voice that pulls you in and makes for an easy read. I certainly recommend it!
Goal No 8: Complete 2 Short Stories
With the help of last semester’s creative writing class, this task is complete. I have a few short stories that I really like, and I look forward to tweaking and sending some out next quarter.
Goal No 9: Create a Goodreads Profile
This has been done since the first week of the quarter. I had put it off and put it off, so finally I threw it on a goals list and boom, it was done. There is a lesson to be learned from this about the power of the goal list!
Goal No 10: Make 3 New Vlogs
I have made some progress on this goal through my guest vlog on the WordNerds channel. I’m also planning on making a couple more for my own channel before the quarter ends. Check in next week if you’re interested in seeing one.
So, if we do a quick tally, I am well on my way to finishing 6.5 out of my 10 goals, which would lead to a success for the quarter. Can I do it? We will soon find out! How are your goals going? Let me know down in the comments what progress you’ve made this quarter!
